Luke looked at her a long moment, wondering how much to say. He'd vowed not to do this, not to teach her, not to pass on the knowledge of an order that had sown so much pain and sorrow. The lightsaber itself was antiquated and outdated, not to mention a symbol, now, of everything Luke had tried to deny by coming here. His tossing away of Anakin's--Rey's, he reminded himself--was not merely a petty gesture. It had almost physically hurt, seeing it again.

"I would not be too quick to dismiss the motives of the Force, when it comes to that," he said finally. "Though I would be equally hesitant to assume I knew what those motives are." The idea that the Force wanted him reunited with the weapon sat uneasily with him. "It was passed on to me by Obi-Wan. It has now passed to you." He didn't want it back.
