Part of Rey wanted to believe that he sounded sad because he'd miss her, because he had some inkling that they might actually be good for one another. But maybe he just missed being a teacher, or maybe he was incredibly lonely. Either way, she shouldn't place too much stock in the idea that he'd have anything but platonic feelings for a girl that he'd - perhaps rightfully so - referred to as a child.
"Luke," she told him even as she moved to follow after him. "I told you. I'm not leaving here without you. And if that means I never leave here... I've been stranded in worse places before."
She realized with horror that she was reaching out towards him, as though meaning to take his hand, but thankfully she stopped herself, fingers clenching into a fist at her side as she walked alongside him.
