Rey was desperate for some sort of confirmation that she was part of some greater scheme, since that was the only thing that could make all those years alone on Jakku make any sense. She had to have been left behind, had to have grown up on her own before discovering the power she had inside herself, had to have been the one to be sent out to find Luke for answers. It was the only thing that made sense to her, though she was still reluctant to believe that that also meant that Han had had to die, or that Finn had to have been beaten badly enough to slip into a coma. She could pick and choose what was inevitable, couldn't she?
But then, choice automatically meant that something wasn't inevitable, and she'd been trying to tell Luke as much ever since he'd first refused to leave the island. So if it wasn't fate....
"Then maybe we're just lucky," she pointed out fondly. "I can live with that, too."
